Knowledge, skills, attitudes – Skills Matter lead appointed

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Fiona Hamilton to the position of programme lead for the Skills Matter programme within Te Pou.

Fiona comes to the Skills Matter position from two years as project lead for Let’s get real, the national framework which describes the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes required to deliver effective mental health and addiction services. During this time Fiona has worked closely with the mental health and addiction sector and has developed excellent sector knowledge and relationships.

New Zealand focus, global experience

Fiona has a Master of Arts in History from the University of Auckland. She served as an expert witness and historian before the Waitangi Tribunal, working with hapu of Tauranga Moana. From 2001-2006 she worked in the legal, financial and advertising sectors in London.

During her two and a half years with Te Pou, Fiona has showed herself to be an exceptional project lead. Her work is characterised by a willingness to listen, consult and keep stakeholders informed. She brings these skills and strong project management abilities to her new role.

Supporting the mental health and addiction workforce

Skills Matter is dedicated to the training and development needs of people working, or wanting to work, in New Zealand’s mental health and addiction services.

An immediate priority for Fiona will be overseeing the training fund and building and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders and the sector.

Fiona has been transitioning into the Skills Matter project lead role and takes on full leadership responsibility as of today, Monday, 15 February. She will be based in Te Pou’s Auckland office.

Fiona’s appointment brings a fresh leadership perspective and vision to Skills Matter. We are delighted to have her on board.
